What Is the Lincoln EV Plan for 2023 and Beyond?

Lincoln EV plan for 2023 and beyond What is the Lincoln EV plan for 2023 and beyond? Lincoln got a head start on the electric future when it introduced the all-new 2020 Lincoln Aviator in 2019. The returning icon of the brand now included a trim level called Aviator Grand Touring, which included advanced electrified hybrid technology. While this wasn’t a true EV model, it certainly gave us a glimpse into what the future of Lincoln might hold. But what exactly are the Lincoln brand’s EV plans for 2023 and beyond? Before we get to the bottom of that, let’s take a closer look at the Aviator Grand Touring. How electric is the Lincoln Aviator Grand Touring? As mentioned, the Lincoln Aviator Grand Touring isn’t a true EV, but it is packed full of electrified technology that laid the groundwork for the EVs sure to be on the way. The hybrid model includes an electric motor that provides a max output of 75 kW with a 13.6-kWh battery pack. The vehicle also provides a selectable drive mode that turns the Aviator into a “true” EV, at least temporarily. The “Pure EV” mode temporarily turns off the gas-powered engine in favor of the electric motor only. The 2020 model year also saw the introduction of the Lincoln Corsair, which has its own Grand Touring trim level. This trim is also a plug-in hybrid, just like the Aviator Grand Touring. What’s next for Lincoln EVs? Next year will see the Lincoln brand turn 100 years old, so to celebrate Lincoln plans to introduce its first-ever all-electric vehicle. Very few details about the new EV have been released thus far, but we know that it’s just the beginning, as Lincoln intends to go completely electric with its entire brand by 2030. The first step in this plan expects roughly 50% of the brand’s global sales volume to be zero-emissions vehicles before the brand goes fully electric by 2030. This will all be made possible by the brand’s new battery-electric architecture, built for both rear-wheel and all-wheel-drive systems. This flexible new architecture will allow the brand to introduce a total of four unique electric vehicles, presumably between 2023 and 2025. What might the first Lincoln EV be? Right now, specific information about what the first Lincoln EV is going to be is limited at best, but there are plenty of predictions and speculations circling the automotive industry between fans and enthusiasts. Some suspect this might be a way for the Lincoln brand to re-enter the sedan marketplace, by introducing a vehicle very similar to the Zephyr. The Lincoln Zephyr is a sedan that the company unveiled at Auto Shanghai 2021 and was ultimately released for the Chinese market. Another popular option, perhaps the frontrunner, is that the first model will simply be a Lincoln Aviator EV. Taking the blueprints that the Aviator Grand Touring has laid out, the Aviator EV would probably be an easy next step to take. This is also an easy guess to make considering Lincoln intends to release four EV models over the next few years. They currently have four models: Aviator, Corsair, Nautilus, Navigator. It’s not a stretch to imagine the brand might just make EV versions of each of their current models, which have already proven to be successful.
